Obituary of Agnes Ann Skiff

Agnes “Peggy” Skiff passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on February 7, 2022 at Mercy Living Center, where she had resided for two months. Peggy was born on October 17, 1925 in Old Forge, NY. She was the daughter of the late Euzeb Walter and Agnes Bassford Tetreault. As a child, her family moved to Tupper Lake, before moving to Northville. She graduated from Northville High School in 1942. On February 16, 1946, she married Jay Brown Skiff at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Northville, NY. Together they moved back to Tupper Lake when her husband accepted a position from his Uncle Elmer Brown as manager at the Altamont Milk Company. Peggy and Jay raised seven children while becoming owners of the Altamont in 1970 as well as purchasing the Franklin Dairy in 1968 and operating both until her husband’s death in 1976. A devoted mother, Peggy is survived by her seven children, Donald Skiff, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Jay Allen Skiff, of Tupper Lake, Steven Skiff, of Tupper Lake, Pamela Skiff, of Cumberland, MD, Patricia Bruszewski and her husband Roger, of Lancaster, PA, Jean Wilcox and her husband Richard, of Georgia, Joan Stuart, and her husband Shawn, of Tupper Lake; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband, Jay Skiff on March 15, 1976 and by her grandson, Donnie Troy Skiff in 2009. In her earlier years, Peggy enjoyed participating in a bowling league and was a member of the Franklin Dairy Softball Team. Peg’s biggest enjoyments in life were spending her time watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She was not one to miss a sporting event, graduation, or wedding. Her family was her pride and joy and she enjoyed watching her family grow over the years. Peg was an avid reader and bird watcher. She loved to watch PGA golf, and took great pride in her gardens and the beautiful flowers she would grow. Calling hours for Agnes A.
